Ottawa University, Arizona (NAIA) is seeking Graduate Assistant coaching candidates for Water Polo & Swim.

The successful candidate will assist the head coach in various aspects of the program with responsibilities including coaching, practice organization and implementation, conditioning supervision, event management responsibilities, transportation, recruitment, equipment control and inventory, and academic monitoring and mentoring.  Evidence of extensive specific sport experience (collegiate playing and/or coaching) is required and a background in strength & conditioning is preferred. Candidates for Graduate Assistant Coach position should possess a commitment to Christian higher education and demonstrate servant leadership.

All qualified applicants should be fully dedicated to instilling the NAIA Champions of Character values into their coaching style and expectations of players both on and off the field. 

Graduate Program General Information
A limited number of graduate assistants are available through the athletic department on the Surprise, Arizona campus location. Positions are limited and highly competitive with opportunities in coaching, but also available in sports information and game day administration.

The selected candidates will be granted tuition waiver (18 credit hours per year) for one of Ottawa University's graduate programs, a partial meal allowance and a bi-weekly living stipend paid over 12 months. Renewals for a second year are based on the evidence of academic performance and quality execution of assigned duties.

Work assignment for Graduate Assistants will be approximately 29 hours a week, but will fluctuate with the demands of the sport and time of year.

International candidates are only eligible to pursue the on-campus MBA degree of the programs that are offered. International students must also be able to secure an F1 student visa and meet the international admissions criteria for acceptance into the Ottawa University MBA program.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Graduate Assistant Water Polo & Swim Coach  

  • Recruit, train and coach members of the men's and women's water polo & swim program
  • Recruit, retain and graduate student-athletes who contribute to the success of the program and vibrancy of campus life 
  • Fund and friend raising for the advancement of the program
  • Provide oversight of student-athletes academic progress toward degree completion
  • Assist with any and all administrative duties as assigned
  • Insure adherence to the NAIA and rules and regulations including the NAIA Champions of Character 5 core values
  • Provide leadership for campus involvement and community service
  • Provide Christ-centered leadership and direction for the golf program
  • Other duties as assigned 


  • A valid driver's license and driving record which meets institutional requirements is required.

  • An earned Bachelor's Degree in a related field and the ability to obtain admission into an Ottawa University graduate program is required (minimum undergraduate degree GPA of 3.0 is required, as well as other acceptance criteria).
