Ottawa University, (Surprise) Arizona currently seeks qualified candidates to fill its open Graduate Assistant positions.

The selected candidate(s) will be granted tuition waiver (18 credit hours per year) for one of Ottawa University's graduate programs, a meal allowance, housing (subject to availability) and a bi-weekly stipend paid over 12 months (renewable for a second year as qualified).

The successful GA coaching candidate should possess a commitment to Christian higher education, utilize servant leadership style of leadership, and be willing to assume the duties listed in the following general position description.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer

 Recruit, train and coach members of the Athletic Training program:

  • Recruit, retain and graduate student-athletes who contribute to the success of the program and vibrancy of campus life 
  • Fund and friend raising for the advancement of the program
  • Provide oversight of student-athletes academic progress toward degree completion
  • Assist with any and all administrative duties as assigned
  • Insure adherence to the NAIA and rules and regulations including the NAIA Champions of Character 5 core values
  • Provide leadership for campus involvement and community service
  • Provide Christ-centered leadership and direction for the assigned athletic program
  • Student Mentoring
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Prevention and care of athletic injury and illnesses
  • Provide coverage at home athletic events, practices, and designated away events
  • Evaluation of athletic injuries
  • Communication of information between the sports medicine team, coaches, student athletes and parents
  • Education and counseling for student athletes regarding their injury/illness
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and record keeping.
  • Maintain the system of daily records of assessments, treatments, and rehabilitation on all athletes with guaranteed confidentiality according to FERPA, HIPPA, and others that apply.
  • Oversee the monitoring and care of the athletics training room, equipment, and inventory housed there.
  • Coordinate NAIA Drug Education policies and procedures with staff and student-athletes
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Provide Christ-centered leadership and direction for the assigned athletic program

  • Assist with administrative duties as assigned
  • Assist with planning, implementation and promotion of College events
  • Support Enrollment team through scheduling appointments, greeting and directing Admissions traffic, reporting assessment data, and other student support duties.
  • Promote activities that will contribute to the success of the program and vibrancy of campus life  
  • Assist with any and all administrative duties as assigned
  • Assist with and Maintain data entry and analysis
  • Assist in various aspects of OUAZ programs including reports, recruitment, mentoring, and community activities.
  • Assist in various aspects of student success including overseeing Resident Assistant selection and training; planning events for Residential Life and for Student Activities; manage/oversee student events; assist with Student Organizations and Student Senate; and provide student mentoring.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization is required

  • Board of Certification (BOC) certified 
  • Eligible for state of Arizona licensure
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Current certification in first aid, CPR, and AED

A valid driver's license and driving record which meets institutional requirements is required.

An earned Bachelor's Degree in a related field and the ability to obtain admission into an Ottawa University graduate program is required (minimum undergraduate degree GPA of 3.0 is required, as well as other acceptance criteria). Graduate school information and degrees may be found at www.ottawa.edu.  International candidates are only eligible to pursue the on-campus degrees offered at our Phoenix, AZ location.  International students must also be able to secure an F1 student visa and meet the international admissions criteria for acceptance into the Ottawa University MBA program.  The priority application deadline is March 15, 2017, and positions will be open until filled.  Official duties will begin as soon as March 1, 2017.
